2nd Street Ministry
Our Story
We want to meet you on your darkest days, at your lowest point, when you feel all alone. The goal of 2nd Street is to meet you where you're at, in whatever condition you are in, in order to meet the needs you have - whether that be helping you learn a job skill, move into transitional housing, finding a counselor, or just being a friend.
Every individual in our organization has come from a troubled background in some way. Whether it be drugs, prison, family trouble, homelessness, or abuse. The one thing we all can agree on is that if it weren't for someone believing in us and giving us a chance to be better then we would have never made it out of the situations we were in. We want to be the one to give you that second chance that you deserve because you matter.
2nd Street is a non-profit operating by donations; which is why your involvement is greatly needed and appreciated.
Waynes Why:
For me it started on a Friday in September of 1989 after a day of drugs and drinking. I found myself in an emergency room with a broken hand. The doctor asked what I was on several times as my heart raced through my chest but I answered with denial. The doctor ended the conversation with “You’re going to die if you don’t change”, but it wasn’t until the loss of a dear friend the following Sunday and her mother warning me that “I was next if I didn’t change the way I was living” that made me want to begin to take control over my life and make a change. Throughout my journey, if it wasn’t for the kindness of strangers, individuals investing in my life, and people accepting me along with the baggage that I carried I would not be where I am today. In my adulthood I have spent over twenty-five years in ministry and found that the people who really need church and really need help never open the doors of a church or ask for help.
